It was nice for a time here in Tbay. The sun was shining, the roads were dry, the wind was warm. I was starting to enjoy the fact that biking to school and work wasn’t like running the gauntlet. Just as I was getting used to the idea of 5 months of this bliss, winter came back, and it came back with a vengeance!
I went to sleep one night and woke up the next day to more than a foot of snow and a day long blizzard. Biking to the grocery store left my face covered in a layer of freezing slush, and after sitting outside, the sluch that had gotten onto my gears had frozen solid. Biking on the road left my pants and face covered in spots of salty mud. My ears got cold and in turn made my head ache. It was freaking April, and we were being hit with weather that we should have seen in January!
Looking at the weather network, I won’t be seeing temperatures north of zero for over a week. I’m so pissed that the good weather was taken away from me so suddenly, and that I once again have to wait more than I should have to for it to come back.
Despite the crappiness of snow and slush, there is one fun thing about the snow returning. Biking in it is so much fun. There is no telling if that snow bank you are about to plow through is going to blast out of your way or stop your bike dead, sending you over the handle bars

Man can I relate! The last week of March saw my comrades and me standing around the Safeway Distribution Centre, outside rather than huddled in the warmth of our rigs. We were hooking up our sets (2 x 53′ trailers) and tractors in long sleeve shirts and hoodies instead of down filled jackets. I even brought out the lacers (wester riding boots).
April 1st came and brought with it 5 days of snow and -15 degree weather, 90 kph headwinds on the highway and general blahs.
As I comment here I am looking out the window at sunshine and MELTING snow. Hopefully this is the first day of SPRING!!
Time for bed… I have to go to Calgary again tonight.
