Where the bloody hell did my book go?
That’s what I asked myself last night at around 11:40 pm. I had just finished a long day, and had gone a few nights without decent sleep. My eyes were black underneath, I was much more irritable than normal, and all I wanted was to get to sleep early. For that, I needed my book. Reading is instant stress relief for me. If I can read before I fall asleep, I sleep deeper. I was all wound up from doing working on projects for hours, and I really just wanted to read my self into unconsciousness.
I pried myself out of my seat and went to get my book out of my bag. It wasn’t there, and I started to get a little angry. I spent 30 futile minutes looking for the damned thing and eventually had to admit to myself that I had lost it at school. I had probably left it in one of my classes. Thoroughly annoyed at this point, I decided to look for the other books I had bought, hoping that reading them would do me well enough for tonight. Could I find them however? F*ck no!
It was almost 1am at that point and I was furious. All I wanted was to read and sleep. I couldn’t read because I had no books. I couldn’t even try to sleep because I was so angry. I decided to maybe chat with some friends for a while in hopes that one of them would say or do something that would, at the very least, lower my blood pressure. I was very lucky. One friend had a unique and very effective way of taking my mind off losing my books, and I thank her for it. Soon after I was calm enough to try sleeping, and I eventually did.
Today I went looking for my book, checking all the classes I had been in. I struck gold in the Ryan Building. There was my book, sitting on the edge of one of the desk rows. I was so relieved that nobody had taken it. As I reached to grab it and put it in my pack, I noticed for the first time what the title was. I had bought the book based on author name alone, but reading that title made me understand why nobody took it: “Mistress of Dragons”
Yeah, I love my fantasy fiction….
