TOTD: Don’t Get Stuck

Don’t get stuck. Or rather, don’t do anything that might get you stuck while you are adventuring alone. Being stuck with nobody to help you isn’t fun, and it could be dangerous. For instance, if you got stuck out in the bush somewhere, a bear could come along and eat you. Sure, if your hands were free you could try to beat the bear off, but I don’t recommend it. Bears are huge, and pummeling at it with your ineffective fists will just piss the bear off, and it will bite off your hands.

Before you pissed it off, it was probably just going to taste you a bit, and upon finding that you taste like dirt (*), it would probably have let you live. So don’t pummel the bear.

You may also want to make sure that your adventuring buddy isn’t the type of person that will just stand and laugh at you instead of helping you get un-stuck. They are not useful in a situation like this, and will make you wish they were eaten by a bear, which isn’t a very pleasant thing to be wishing upon somebody, now is it?

(*) Tasteing like dirt is a common side-effect of adventuring. Don’t believe me? Next time you are adventuring, give yourself a lick. you will see.

Try being a truck driver in Northern Alberta winters in the middle of freakin’ nowhere. I can tell you about being stuck…..

Have you ever taken one of those crazy-huge trucks into the ditch?

Only once…. on purpose to avoid being sideswiped by an out of control turnpike that was passing me in a storm.

I took two 53′ trailers loaded with fresh meat into about 8′ of snow at about 30 kph…. It took three heavy-haul wreckers to extract the truck….

Not the most fun you can have with yer boots on, but close!
