When I used to go on trips of any sort, I’d always bring one set foot ware. Something that will handle any situation with ease, without the need for switching. I like to use a decent pair of tevas or my keens for this. But I have learned something. One pair really doesn’t cut it.
If you are doing nothing but paddling, or walking groomed trails, one pair is fine. But if you have to portage any sort of distance, especially through uncertain territory, nothing beats an old pair of running shoes. They might not seem like the best choice, but give them a chance. They are comfy, easy to slip on, and if they get wet its no big deal. They are already old, and they will dry much faster than a a pair of more rugged and less airy hiking boots. They are warmer for colder days or nights than sandals.
So, next time you go for an adventure, throw those old running shoes in your pack as well. You won’t be sorry.
