Look Ahead When You Bike

A few nights ago I was biking home from work, going as fast as I could just for kicks. I was on the sidewalk because biking on the roads in winter at night in T-bay is pretty much the same as signing your own death warrant. It was that night that I discovered something very important; looking ahead when you are biking is something you should do ALL the time, not just some of the time.

I was looking just in front of my bike when it happened. I like to watch the snow covered ground whiz by below me. Every so often I look up to check for cars, and pedestrians, and cracked-out old guys. I’d call that last group pedestrians, except that they don’t really walk, so I put them in their own separate group. The last time I had looked up, the coast appeared to be clear. But I was wrong. There was a blue cart a mere 10 feet in front of me. Its colour must have blended into the dark background of thunder bay at night. I slammed on my breaks, and being the trusty super-lock brakes that they are, my wheels locked and I slid right into the damn thing.

Now, that situation should have ended badly for me, but I must have been going ramming speed because I won. That’s right, I knocked that cart right out of the way! I came out of the battle completely unharmed! I should get a cookie for that.

Isn’t riding a bike, that is over a certain frame size, on the sidwalk illegal, even in T-Bay? And if your bike is under that size……

    WE WANT PICTURES!!!

    LOL
