It is exam time. Exam time is my least favourite time of year. Its stressful, it isn’t any fun, and I usually lose 5 to 10 pounds as a result of not eating because I’m so busy. At least this year I have somebody around to feed me.
Students deal with exam time differently. Some spend all the time that they aren’t studying getting completely smashed. I don’t really go for that. I’ve seen what happens to those kids. They usually spend their study time recovering from the non-studying time; sitting by a toilet or hiding from the light under the covers in bed with the blinds drawn.
I like to start early, study in 2 hour chunks, and end my day at 10. I’m then free for a movie, some WC3 time with the foo-man Choo, or a pint at the pub until about 12, when I go to bed in preparation for the next day.
I’ve failed one exam so far. Its my first failure ever, but I’m not out of the ace yet. I still have a project to do for the course, and it is worth 25%. I should be able to do well enough in it to scrape by. The exam I wrote this morning was fun. I did it in 40 minutes, which is close to my average time. I’m always the first to finish because I know very well what I do know, but if I don’t know it, I don’t even try it. That strategy has always worked well for me, so I continue to use it. Its just wham, bam, thank you m’am.

I am the sort to work my ass out learning the material. Then I review the material in its entirety throughout the semester. Come exam time I don’t even crack a book beyond reviewing the latest material. I figure, “if I don’t know it today, then I won’t know it tomorrow.
This has always served me well. Getting smashed the night before an exam is plain stupid. Who wants to go into the exam with a hangover? You want the predominant thoughts in your mind to be the subject matter, not keeping down the STOMACH matter.
