Taylor, the Unhireable!

I have been trying, with no success, to get a job. Why? Because I need to eat AND have fun, and my current savings (and by savings I mean line of credit) don’t allow for both.

I thought, being the well spoken, well referenced, broad work experienced, intelligent university student that I am, SOMEBODY would want to hire me. This does not seem to be the case.

Let’s start with the first attempt: Staples. I was called in for an interview for a position in computer sales. I know lots about computers and tech, and I can speak common English. I thought I was a shoe in. The interview went well, I chatted up the manager, and he said I would be referred for another interview. I wasn’t. I was not called back for another interview, and I never heard from them again.

Then there was StarTek. It wasn’t hard to get in there. They needed 100 new employees fast, and their standards were low. I was hired and put in a class for training. I was the last to show up on the first day of training, so my spot was given to somebody else. How does that happen? Well, they put more people in the class then they can actually have because sometimes people just don’t show up. Damn.

Next was Value Village. I was sure I’d have a decent chance here. I was called in for one interview, for a second, and then… nothing. One of my references that was phoned by the manager told me to expect a call. The manager said I would know by Tuesday. It is Wednesday night and I have not heard anything.

Futureshop is hiring right now for the Christmas rush. Nothing there either. I applied, I tried. Moving on.

MCCI is hiring customer support staff. They, like StarTek, hire anybody, and right now they really need people. I really want this job because it pays very well and very close to home. I emailed my resume, complete with some sure-fire references. But again, I have heard nothing. Wtf? I ask myself.

There is, however, an upside to not finding a job. I can go home for a full Christmas break instead of a few short days that I could get off work!

oh man. that really sucks. thats weird that you aren’t getting hired anywhere. I know idiots that get hired daily. Don’t know how they pull it off but they do. At least you get to go home for all of Christmas vacay as you said!
