Call to Class

Monday night was the tail end of my week of no-sleep as I like to call it. For whatever reason, It would take me HOURS just to fall asleep every night, and I would often wake up several times during the night.

At about 3 in the morning I set my alarm clock to wake me up for 7:50am and fell into bed. After half an hour of tossing and turning and trying to quiet my brain, I must have fallen asleep. At 7:00 am the phone rings and its my Mom wondering if I got the package she sent me. Why 7am Mom, why? I crawled back into bed and quickly fell asleep.

At 7:50 the alarm went off. I thought to myself “you don’t need a shower, sleep for another 10″ So I smacked the clock and went back to sleep.

The phone rings again what seems like moments later. I pick it up and grumble a ‘hello?’ into the receiver. I get no response so I try again. Nothing. Then I hear some noise in the background and I realize that it is Siddiqui’s voice, one of my Profs. He is lecturing. Why do I hear him lecturing? I think to myself. I look at the clock and its almost 9am. That class started at 8:30.

Suddenly everything snaps into focus. My buddy Karl has called me from class, but to avoid getting the evil eye from the prof, he has called me from his cell without taking it out of his pocket. He can’t me hear me yelling hello, and I of course wouldn’t hear him answering because he can’t. That sly son of a bitch. I must have turned off my alarm when I smacked it into snooze. Damn.

In 5 minutes I’m dressed and out the door. In another 8 (record time) I’m locking up my bike and running to class. I got there in time to catch most of the lecture, and once again be reminded that I have no clue about this class, and while the prof may speak pretty good English, I don’t understand a word.
