Amazing, The Things You Figure Out By Looking Up

Saturday night I was watching Gremlins because I got yelled at for not knowing what a mogwai was. And also because by the time I’m done all the school work I need to get down for that day, I don’t even want to try going out anywhere.

I had made it through most of the first movie when I realized it was cold in my apartment. In fact, it had been cold for a few days. What the hell was going on? There is a giant gas furnace in the room behind my head, and yet it is cold. And hold on… I haven’t heard that behemoth fire up for days! What is going on?

I didn’t have an answer right away, so I looked to the ceiling for help. Holy shit; there was a cobweb up there! I wondered if there were any more, so I looked around at the rest of the ceiling. That is when I noticed the random switch sticking out of the ceiling by the stairs. What was that thing for again? Oh yeah, the furnace. I wondered again just why the hell the damn thing was on the other side of the apartment from the furnace. Staring at it harder I got the feeling that there was something not quite right about it. What was wrong?

It was flipped the wrong way! Dear god, that’s why it is cold! I must have hit the switch coming down the stairs with the top of my backpack and turned the jezus furnace off! I hoped that the people living above me never figured out they were cold because of me. I flicked that sucker the right way and I heard the boom of the furnace turn on.

It’s cozy in here now, and I’ve taped that switch down to prevent that from ever happening again.
