A week or so ago I was in Fort William (the shady half of Thunder Bay) for a pre-screener to a job interview. I had had no idea how long it would take me to get there, so giving myself plenty of time I ended up being 20 minutes early. Instead of just waiting around (I could get mugged if I stand still, I thought to myself) I biked around the adjacent city blocks, enjoying the colour of the trees.
As I biked down a sidewalk on some small side street, lost in thought, I passed by a woman walking in the opposite direction. Just as I passed her, and for no apparent reason she screams “KYLE!!!”. It startled me so badly I nearly fell off my bike. I got my balance back only to narrowly miss hitting a tree. After setting myself on a proper course, I peddled my ass away from that crazy woman as fast as I could. Once out of possible attack range, I checked to make sure I had not crapped myself. I was good.
I still had 10 minutes left at this point, so I continued to bike around, getting back into my “I’m the person you want to hire” mode. As I biked I could still hear that crazy lady yell “KYLE!” every so often.
Moments before I locked up my bike to head in for my meeting, I caught sight of the crazy lady walking beside an older man in one of those three-wheelers old people putt around in. He looked like he was not all there, judging by the angle of his head and failure to look where he was going. I guess crazy lady had lost him. I can see why he was trying to escape…
