Coffee and Me; a love/hate relationship

Recently I’ve discovered coffee.

I’ve tried it a few times over that last couple years, but I never liked it, or understood why people liked its effects so much. I can’t stand the taste of coffee, only coffee flavored things, like iced caps. But when I decided to drink some in an effort to stay awake during 7 straight hours of lectures and labs, I suddenly understood why people drink it, and why I now would.

I got in line for the Tim Horton’s in the ATAC on campus, and ordered myself a small triple triple. Yeah, I know there isn’t much coffee in that, but I needed to drown out the taste of it. Like everything else I drink, it was gone in a couple of minutes. It tasted decent, and it warmed me up, which I thought would put me to sleep. Holy CRAP was I wrong.

I was totally awake for the entire class, and for that certain class, that was a freaking miracle. Not only was I awake, but I was able to pay attention and absorb information, which is even MORE of a miracle. My ADD and innate boredom with half my classes usually makes it impossible for me to pay attention for any decent length of time, and my auditory retention of most things isn’t so hot anyways. But after that coffee I was good to go.

Now, the stuff isn’t without its side effects. I’ve been having a harder time getting to sleep at night, and the stuff makes me jittery and makes the back of my eyes hurt. I hope to find some way around this, because the benefits of the coffee to my education far outweighs those drawbacks, annoying as they are. I’m going to continue to drink it before the longer classes or the ones I really need to pay attention to, but I’ll limit myself to only a few a week.

Lets see how this goes, I’ll keep you informed!

Coffee is like a drug Tap, you’ll be hooked in no time. The annoyances go away after a while I assume. I wouldn’t know, I stay away from coffee. As for sleeping trouble I suggest you not drink coffee for a bout 5 hours before bed. Possibly less. Oh and try to fit the lid up your nose ;D

Welcome to the beginning stages of caffeine addiction. What a wonder it is!!

Of course I am a REAL coffee drinker, ingesting a minimum of 4 extra-large black Timmie’s coffees and at least one four-shot venti latte at the Starbucks in Safeway in Fort McMurray, Alberta. This is a DAILY exercise.

I have a sign (window-talker) hanging on the windshield of my truck. It reads as follows, “Drink Cofee!!!! Do stupid things faster and with more energy!” After the Venti Latte in Fort McMurray it is all I can do to not beat my truck back to Edmonton!!

The ache behind your eyes will go away in no time. What will replace it is much better….. Caffeine withdrawal headaches if you don’t ingest caffeine as soon as you get up in the morning. I don’t have the sleeping problem. I can drink coffee right up until bedtime and still sleep as soon as my head hits the pillow.

Of course I have had the addiction for 27 years…….

Welcome to the Club (“Pass me a smoke and a cup of coffee please. I will inhale them after I finish my beer!”)
